My Goals for 2022

I’m sure I’m not the only person who wants the next year to be a better year than the previous one. We all strive to be better and the thought of New Year’s Day seems to motivate us more than any other day of the year. I want to take this opportunity to write down a few things that I would personally like to improve on in the new year. I’ll then take the time each month to reflect on my goals for 2022. I’m usually rubbish at sticking to things so I hope this goes further than this one post.

💷 Earn More

Who doesn’t want to earn more? We all want to be more comfortable and not have to worry about money as much as we do. In 2022 I would like to take on more freelance and side projects. This is so I can build my portfolio and pay off my debts and credit cards. I don’t have much but would love to have it paid off just so that is one less thing to worry about. Also, I want to build up my side projects so that they can become a reliable source of passive income each month.

👩🏻‍🏫 Learn More

I love learning new things and it will help me further my career. I’ve bought a lot of Udemy and Domestika courses but have yet to complete any. I’m going to make time every day, even if it’s just 15 minutes, to learn new things and complete said courses.

Also, I would love to learn a language. I’ll be signing up to Rosetta Stone in the new year to learn German.

👩🏻‍💻 Create More

I have so many ideas and a to-do list of the length of my arm. So, I would like to create more digital products, more poster designs, and just more stuff. I also have a few blog ideas that I’ll be working on throughout 2022. I’ll update you all here when I do my Monthly Goals Review blog post.

📝 Write More

I’ve always wanted to write more blog posts and that is something I’m going to do add to my goals for 2022. I will write a blog post a week. Whether it be a tutorial, guide, freelance advice, or random thoughts. I’ll post weekly across my side projects including my online portfolio, Loot Drop Graphics, and Christine Wilde Art shop.

This kind of comes under the ‘write more’ category. I’m useless at messaging and replying to things. I want to check up on my close friends and family more often. This will mean replying to messages straight away instead of writing half a message and getting distracted by something else.

🔗 Share More

I want to share my artwork and projects on social media more. It would also be nice to increase my following across all platforms. I’ve recently read a great book called “Show Your Work” by Austin Kleon. Throughout the book, Austin tells us how important it is to show our work and progress behind what we do. It’s a great little book and I highly recommend it. I’m going to start this off with sketching once a day and uploading it to my Wilde Sketchbook Instagram account.

📚 Read 12 books

In 2021 I realised how important it is to read books. I’d not read books since school/college. If I had read anything it would be a Computer Arts or 3D World magazine. Even then I’d mainly be looking at the pictures. I’ve bought a few self-help, productivity, and business-related books. I’ll be reading these throughout 2022 and I’ve given myself the challenge of reading at least one book a month. I’m starting this list off with “Four Thousand Weeks: Time and How to Use It” by Oliver Burkeman.

🏃🏻‍♀️ Be Healthier

Another one of my goals for 2022 is to live a much healthier life. I need to lose some weight to feel healthier and more confident. Another thing I’ve learned throughout the past few years is that our health is the most valuable thing we have. I want to be healthier to live a longer life and have more time to enjoy it with my wife. I’m also going to give myself the challenge of quitting alcohol. I’ve said to myself many times that I would love to not have alcohol in my life. I’m 35 now and I’ve drunk weekly. I owe it to my body to have a break. I’m aiming for a year. If I achieve that then I’m cutting it out of my life for good. I use alcohol as a stress reliever, a treat, a celebration, and a confidence booster. I need to replace that with exercise. I’m done with hangovers and wasting days where I can’t do anything.

I’ll be using a variety of tracker apps to keep on top of my calorie intake and exercise routine. I’m going to be running the Great South Run in October 2022 so I need to be super fit for that. It’s 10 miles long and it will be the furthest I’ve run in one go ever!

😁 Be Happier

Working on the above points will make me happier overall but I want to work on small personal things. I would love to take better care of my physical and mental health. This will mean that I take some more time for myself, taking short breaks to reflect on things, some quiet time, etc. I would like to start keeping a journal just so I can reflect on my day and remember certain things that happened that day. This will be a great opportunity to say something every day that I’m grateful for. Also, I would love to stop being a people pleaser.

I think these points are all easily achievable. I just need to find ways of sticking to things and not getting distracted or giving up because I’m stressed, need to celebrate, or it’s a Tuesday. Like I said, I’ll be reviewing these points at the end of each month and writing an additional blog post. This is so I can be accountable for them and I’ll feel like I need to stick to these things more because it’s out there in the world.
