Brand Identity Design
This is my answer to the Designer Hikes logo design challenge brief where I took home the bronze! I had a lot of fun working on this project and answering the brief.
The fountain pen nib represents mountains, campfire and the Illustrator pen tool. The pencils underneath represent the campfire wood and pencil drawing. I created a bundle of graphics and assets to go along with the full brand to me used where ever the client needed. I also showcased the logo on different products to show how the logo could be shown off.
I also designed some achievement badges for club members to earn when they have achieved certain things whilst hiking with Designer Hikes.
The Logo Mark
The logo mark brings together a collection of outdoor and design related elements. As you can see below each section of the logo mark represents a few different things. I wanted the logo to stand out no matter where it is used hence why it has the bold style. It also brings in my illustration style to the brand identity.
The Brand Assets
I created a couple of brand assets to be added to the brand identity. Included was a set of achievements that I thought would be nice for hikers to unlock when they had completed a set of different criteria. This includes amount of hikes, distances and organising events. Who doesn’t love getting achievements and medals?
Along with those assets I also created a subtle pattern to be used as a background or on packaging. It is a combination of a topography map and vector line tool.
The Products
Events and groups like these always need merch! So I’ve put together a couple of ideas for products for the Designer Hikes hikers. It always great to see different logo uses when creating a brand identity for a brief. Using the bright yellow will help hikers be seen in any environment too.
Project Summary
This was the first time I had entered a design competition to create a brand for a company. It was a tonne of fun and seeing everyone’s entries was amazing. It was great to get my teeth into a super creative brief and design all the logo lockups and assets. This design came in 3rd, there was a tonne of great competition. I did receive a bunch of goodies too.
